Rain slicks the dark asphalt of a narrow Kyoto alley as dusk settles, reflecting the warm glow of a red lantern hanging above a small ramen stall. Under the shelter of the awning, a vendor in a white happi coat wipes down a stainless steel counter with a cloth, his movements brisk against the steady drizzle. A few plastic stools are stacked nearby, wet and glistening. On the edge of the counter, a blue floral pattern on porcelain teacups sits beside a steaming pot, their delicate design against the industrial metal. The quiet, rhythmic closure of a day in the city, with the rain softening the edges of the traditional wooden buildings lining the street.
