Rainy Evening at Shuttered Lokoja Gas Station

Honeyed evening light spills across cracked asphalt at a metro entrance in Lokoja, illuminating the rusted skeleton of a shuttered gas station. Two pumps stand tilted against a low-hanging grey cloud cover, their surfaces slick with recent rain. The yellow firelight warmth reflects off wet concrete, highlighting deep fissures running through the pump bases and peeling paint on the canopy frame. Water pools around the metal feet, distorting the reflections of the dark sky. A Dutch angle tilt emphasizes the precarious lean of the machinery, making the rusted nozzles appear to reach toward the muddy ground. Droplets rest on the edges of the canopy, waiting to fall into the stagnant puddles below.
