Pink Dawn Light on Water Tower Rivets New Mexico

by Lilly Riley

Soft pink light from the early summer dawn washes over the rusted steel surface of a water tower standing at the edge of a town. Thousands of rivets catch the diffuse glow, creating a rhythmic texture of small metallic points against the darker metal skin. A fine mist hangs low above the concrete base, softening the transition between the structure and the ground. Transmission towers loom in the background, their dark lattice lines cutting across the pale sky. The spray from the tower's operation creates a damp sheen on the lower steel panels. Leading lines formed by the tower's vertical ribs guide the gaze upward toward the glowing horizon where the sky shifts from deep indigo to warm rose. The final rivet near the bottom edge reflects a sharp, isolated point of pink fire against the gray steel.
