Persimmons in Izmir at Midday Light
by Jerry Adkins
Overcast midday light diffuses evenly across a weathered wooden stall in Izmir, Turkey, where a cluster of ripe persimmons rests on a red lacquered wood tray. The soft, flat illumination highlights the glossy skins of the fruit, each one catching a faint, diffuse reflection of the gray sky above. Beside the vibrant orange spheres, a few glass bottles stand upright, their surfaces streaked with condensation that beads into tiny, clear droplets. The composition balances the organic roundness of the harvest against the rigid, reflective geometry of the glass containers.
