Deep shadows pool beneath piles of crimson apples and pale yellow melons arranged in tight pyramids on a wet wooden table. A vendor's hands, blurred by motion, press the fruit into place beside a stainless steel fish counter where silver scales glint under a thin rim of dawn light. The air hangs heavy and humid, condensing on the cool surfaces of the produce and the metal edges of the display. Dry season dust rests on the lower shelves while droplets of rain bead along the fruit skins. Overhead, the geometric stacks rise against the dark backdrop of the early morning market, their rounded forms catching the first pale rays of the sun. one drop of water rolls from the edge of a melon onto the wet floorboards.
