The narrow alley behind a Hamra street café glistens under the flat, diffused light of a post-rain dawn, where wet asphalt reflects the peeling pastel stucco of a two-story building. A rusted metal umbrella stand, overflowing with closed black umbrellas, sits against the wall, its surface beaded with fresh moisture. Beside it, a cluster of potted geraniums in chipped terracotta pots spills vibrant red blooms over the damp concrete ledge, their leaves heavy with rain droplets. An orange cat crouches low on a dry patch of tiled entryway, eyes fixed on a stray cracker near the curb, while condensation beads on the glass pane of a shuttered bakery window behind it.
