Bakery Alley in Beirut

Just after sunrise in Beirut, a narrow alleyway is lit by cool blue light that contrasts with the warm orange spill from a nearby bakery window. In the foreground, a rusted metal rack holds a single saucer and a towel edge draped over a rail, while further back, a baker pulls a tray of bread from a stone oven. The rough limestone walls of the buildings frame the scene, their textured surfaces catching the early morning shadows cast by overhead wires. A wisp of steam rises from the saucer, blurring slightly as it drifts toward the open street where a distant scooter passes.
