Tuberose Spike in Monsoon Night Light in near Kingston

Tuberose Spike in Monsoon Night Light

by Sherry Joseph

White tuberose spikes stand stark against a deep indigo night sky near Kingston. A sweeping beam of artificial light cuts through the heavy monsoon air, illuminating the waxy petals and wet, glistening leaves. Wind whips the slender stems, bending them sharply to one side while rain droplets rest on the dark green foliage. The intense spotlight isolates the flower, leaving vast negative space in the surrounding darkness where rain streaks are barely visible. The moisture on the petals reflects the cool beam, creating a sharp contrast with the shadowed garden floor below. One raindrop slides from the tip of the lowest bud.
