Night Beam Illuminates Mongolian Tufa Tower in in Mongolia

Night Beam Illuminates Mongolian Tufa Tower

by Peggy Zimmerman

Deep indigo darkness covers the Mongolian desert lake shore, interrupted by a sharp, sweeping beam of artificial light. This illumination reveals a tufa tower rising from the water's edge, its porous, cream-colored surface textured with small holes and vertical ridges. The light falls across the rock, highlighting the rough stone against the pitch-black water that laps at the base. Above, the sky remains a solid, starless void of black, indicating a perfectly clear night. Shadows stretch long across the sandy banks beside the tower, while the beam's edge cuts a clean line through the night air. The top of the formation glows with a cool white intensity, against the unlit water below.
