Twilight deepens the sky above a Nanjing crosswalk where a public vigil unfolds. Distant town glow softens the horizon while broadcast cables slice the upper foreground. Paper notices, pinned to temporary barriers, flutter slightly against the institutional gravity of the school gate. Small candles in glass holders line the pavement, their flames casting warm orange halos on the gray asphalt. The cool blue light of the turn-of-season evening contrasts with the flickering warmth. Leading lines from the road markings guide the view toward the gathering, where shadows stretch long across the ground. A reflection of a single flame glimmers on a wet patch near the curb.
