Moorish Tiled Floor Symmetry Lagos Night

by Lindsey Schaefer

Small ceramic tiles in geometric Moorish patterns form a repeating grid across the floor of an indoor stair hall near Lagos. Deep blue and white shapes create a rigid, symmetrical design that draws toward the center of the frame. String lights hang overhead, casting a warm, yellowish glow that reflects off the glossy glazed surfaces. Condensation beads on a nearby glass pane, distorting the light slightly and hinting at the humid wet season air. The shadows fall sharply between the tile edges, showing the flat, hard texture of the stone. A dark vertical line of the stair railing cuts through the lower right corner, breaking the perfect symmetry with a solid, dark shape.
