Misty Utility Trench Shoring Before Sunrise in beneath a tower crane on open ground in Umbria

Misty Utility Trench Shoring Before Sunrise

by Stacey Wall

Soft gray morning light falls through thick mist clinging to the open ground in Umbria. Steel shoring beams brace the vertical walls of a deep utility trench, their rusted surfaces reflecting the dull sky. Coiled cables and wooden planks lie scattered near the edge, marking the construction sequence before the crew arrives. A tower crane looms overhead, its steel legs disappearing into the fog. Late autumn leaves, brown and brittle, rest against the metal supports. The trench floor remains dark and damp, against the pale steel frames rising from the earth. Dust settles on the wooden planks, undisturbed by footprints.
