Mist rests on the corrugated iron roof of a Victorian flat, dripping onto a narrow concrete landing where a rusted padlock secures a heavy steel gate. Beyond the gate, a faded awning shelters a row of potted herbs, their leaves beaded with dampness against the gray light. One folding stool sits abandoned near the doorway, its legs stained with city grime, while a shadow of a peg rail stretches long and thin across the peeling plaster wall.
