Victorian Steps in San Francisco

Mist clings thickly to the steep, cobblestone incline of Filbert Street Steps, softening the sharp geometry of Victorian bay windows that lean precariously over the path. A weathered wooden birdhouse, mounted on a rusted post, hangs suspended in the damp air, its paint peeling to reveal gray wood beneath the perpetual fog. Below, a tangle of wild English ivy climbs the retaining wall, its glossy leaves slick with condensation and dripping onto the wet stone steps.
