Midnight Heather Blooms in Cold Moonlight in in a bloom-heavy meadow near Montpellier

Midnight Heather Blooms in Cold Moonlight

by Hayley Trevino

Pale lavender clusters of heather stand dense against the dark, damp earth of a Scottish moor. Cold, silver moonlight spills over the flower heads, turning their tiny petals into translucent shards of violet and white. Fine droplets of sea spray rest on the stems, catching the light like scattered diamonds. The ground beneath is a carpet of dried brown bracken and wet, peaty soil. Tall, empty sky occupies the upper half of the view, leaving the floral patch isolated in the vast, quiet dark. One droplet slides slowly down a green stem, breaking the stillness with a faint, wet sheen.
