Midnight Bonfire Reflection on Highland Loch in from a frost-hushed ridgeline in Chubu

Midnight Bonfire Reflection on Highland Loch

by Cole Murray

Orange flames leap from a stone ring atop a frost-dusted ridgeline, casting a steady glow against the dark Chubu mountains. The fire burns low and bright, its light piercing a faint atmospheric haze that softens the distant peaks. Below, the loch surface lies perfectly still, holding a sharp, inverted mirror of the burning wood and sparks. Cool moonlight washes the surrounding pine needles and wet rocks in pale blue tones, against the warm fire. A thin layer of fog rests on the water's edge, blurring the boundary between the dark shore and the deep water. The reflection remains undisturbed, creating a symmetrical column of light that extends from the ridge into the abyss of the lake. One ember drifts upward, vanishing into the cold night sky.
