Bright noon light floods the rustic wooden table, casting sharp shadows beneath a plate piled high with golden-brown carnitas tacos. The meat glistens with rendered fat, layered with fresh green cilantro leaves and wedges of lime that sit ready for squeezing. Pale walls reflect the broad skylight, keeping the center of the table intensely bright while the corners of the room fade into the warm, soft glow of settling lamplight. The wood grain runs diagonally under the ceramic plate, adding texture to the earthy tones of the food. A few scattered crumbs rest near the edge of the plate, and the vibrant green of the herbs contrasts against the deep orange of the tortillas. The lime wedges show visible juice droplets on their rinds.
