Taqueria Counter in Los Angeles

Under the harsh, flat glare of a Los Angeles noon, a roadside taqueria counter is a chaotic mosaic of utility and wear. A cracked blue and white porcelain plate sits abandoned next to a stainless steel cocktail shaker, both smeared with dried salsa drips that have baked into the enamel. Behind the glass sneeze guard, stacks of paper napkins lean precariously against a basket of warm tortillas, while a half-eaten fruit bowl of green limes and red chilies provides a burst of acidic color against the beige tiles.
