In the predawn darkness of Venice, Italy, a narrow cobblestone alleyway is illuminated by the harsh, flickering glow of a single sodium streetlamp. The cart features a brushed steel edge that reflects the dim light, against the damp, dark stone walls of the surrounding buildings. Nearby, a metal hook plate with visible smudges hangs from a rusted bracket on a shuttered shop front. The quiet, busy reality of the city before the tourists arrive, with wet pavement mirroring the sparse artificial lights and the vendor’s focused posture.
