Mammatus Clouds Over Eswatini Twilight Plain

by Pablo Zhang

Bulbous mammatus cloud formations hang heavily from a darkening sky, their rounded undersides glowing with deep orange and gold light. Below, a flat plain stretches toward a distant horizon where the warm glow of a town creates a thin band of illumination. Heat haze shimmers across the foreground, blurring the texture of dry grass and dust. The massive clouds appear as dark silhouettes against the bright twilight, their shapes resembling clusters of grapes or pouches. The ground remains in shadow, against the luminous ceiling. Fine particles in the air catch the fading sun, creating a visible shimmer that distorts the lower edges of the cloud structures. The horizon line separates the dark earth from the dramatic, textured sky.
