Magenta Dawn Ice Crystal on Window Hinge

by Alan Henson

An impossible deep magenta sky bleeds through the glass, casting an alien glow onto a frost-laden window hinge. A singular, jagged ice crystal grows outward from the metal seam, its translucent facets catching the strange backlight. Outside, a patch of dew-soaked moss from Djurgarden rests on the sill, its green leaves dark and heavy with winter moisture. Condensation beads along the nearby glass surface, blurring the boundary between the interior cold and the impossible exterior light. The metal hinge shows signs of rust beneath the frost, against the sharp, geometric purity of the growing crystal. A final reflection of the magenta hue fractures across the wet moss leaf at the bottom edge.
