Logging Train Crossing Ferry in Late Autumn

Steel rails stretch across the narrow ferry deck, converging sharply toward the vanishing point where the vessel meets the distant water. A heavy logging train, laden with wet timber logs, dominates the frame. The wood glistens with moisture, reflecting the clear late-afternoon sun that bounces off the surrounding water. Wind whips through the sparse, brownish foliage of the late autumn forest lining the banks. The metal surfaces of the train cars show signs of heavy use and rust, against the smooth, dark water below. The ferry cuts through the channel near Haarlem, carrying the industrial load across the calm, grey-green surface. The final log rests heavily against the wooden bulkhead, its rough bark texture visible in the sharp, reflected light.
