Lumber Train Crosses Bavarian Ferry Trestle

Late afternoon tropical light floods the scene, illuminating a freight train heavy with timber as it traverses a high trestle bridge. The rails cut diagonally across the frame, supported by steel beams that vanish into a thin layer of early spring fog. Below, the water of a remote ferry crossing reflects the pale sky, its surface calm and distant. The logs are stacked in neat, rough-hewn rows, their bark textured and dark against the bright air. Shadows stretch long and sharp beneath the wheels, at the base of the massive weight of the cargo. The low angle emphasizes the height of the structure, making the train appear as a solid line of industrial movement against the soft, hazy backdrop of the Bavarian landscape. One beam of sunlight catches the rusted edge of a rail spike.
