Lithops Colony in Tibetan Dawn Rain in in a bloom-heavy meadow in Tibet

Lithops Colony in Tibetan Dawn Rain

by Kayla Liu

Pale stone-like succulents cluster tightly within coarse gravel, their fleshy leaves mimicking the surrounding grey rocks. Late autumn rain coats every surface in a sheen of water, turning the pebbles dark and glossy. Deep shadows obscure the base of the plants, while a faint rim of cool nautical dawn light outlines their edges, creating a sharp separation from the background. The meadow beyond blurs into a wash of muted greens and browns, heavy with wet vegetation. Droplets rest on the translucent tips of the leaves, catching the dim light. One bead of water slides slowly down the side of a central plant, resting on the wet gravel below.
