Ladder on Silo Chute in Niger Ranch
Galvanized metal rungs ascend the curved exterior of a grain silo chute, catching the sharp angle of late-afternoon sun. Inside the ranch corral, thick ropes and bales of dry straw lie scattered across the dusty ground, their textures rough against the smooth, silver metal. A sheet of paper flutters wildly against the silo wall, whipped by the wet-season wind that bends the sparse grass nearby. Gray daylight bleeds in from the open sides of the structure, against the warmer shadows cast by the afternoon sun. The rubber soles of a boot rest on the lowest step, at the base of the scale of the industrial ladder against the rustic, operational calm of the rural setting. One shadow stretches long across the packed earth.
