Jungle Vines Overgrow Haifa Aquarium Store Tank

by Annette Andrade

Honey-colored window light floods the indoor space of a Haifa aquarium shop, illuminating a frag tank on a coral holding rack beside a fish bagging counter. Thick, vibrant jungle vines have inexplicably overgrown half the room in a single season, their broad green leaves draping over metal shelving and spilling onto the floor. The vines curl around transparent glass tanks, their tendrils wrapping around white plastic bags and coiling near the handling tools. Soft reflections shimmer on the wet surfaces of the tanks and the polished counter, mirroring the impossible foliage. The vines obscure parts of the equipment, creating a dense, verdant wall against the sterile white tiles. One vine stem rests heavily on a stack of empty netting bags, its texture rough and leafy against the smooth plastic.
