Japanese Lanterns Glowing in Monsoon Shrine Night

by Rhett Perry

Wet stone slabs reflect the warm amber glow of traditional Japanese lanterns lining a path within a shrine in Soubré. Heavy monsoon rain glistens on the mossy surfaces, creating a slick, dark texture against the aged gray stone. Strings of small lights hang overhead, casting a soft, diffused illumination that cuts through the deep night darkness. The composition is perfectly symmetrical, with identical lanterns standing in precise rows on either side of the central walkway. Puddles form in the low spots of the pavement, mirroring the glowing orbs above. The damp air is visible as a faint haze clinging to the lower stone surfaces, while the wet ground absorbs the light, leaving the upper archways in deep shadow.
