Izmir Stairwell Illuminated at The Deepest Night Sky Light

by Daniela Christian

A narrow concrete stairwell inside the Ege University observatory in Izmir descends into shadow, lit only by the deep red glow of night vision bulbs mounted on the walls. The harsh crimson light reflects off the worn stone steps and peeling paint, creating high contrast shadows that stretch toward the dark exit. Through an open doorway at the bottom of the frame, the night sky above Izmir is visible, dense with stars and devoid of city light pollution. The quiet, utilitarian architecture of the academic building, showing the stark difference between the artificial red interior and the natural darkness outside, at the base of the image in the specific location of the university's astronomical facilities.
