Iron Gate in Halifax

Rain-slicked granite steps of a heritage row house in the North End gleam under the flat, diffused light of a grey morning. A weathered iron gate stands slightly ajar, leading to a narrow side yard where a terracotta flowerpot rests on a damp stone ledge, its soil dark and heavy with recent moisture. Beside it, a rusted boot scraper lies on the pavement, its metal teeth catching the weak ambient glow. One green shirt hanger hangs from a low branch of a weeping willow, swaying gently in the residual breeze, its plastic surface reflecting the pale sky.
