Bright noon light floods the prayer hall in Ahmedabad, casting sharp, flat shadows across the stone floor. A group of people wearing heavy Inuit parkas with fur-trimmed hoods stands on a large seal-skin mat. They toss a woman high into the air using the blanket toss technique, her body suspended against the high, arched ceiling.
