Grandmother Making Pasta in Kunming Courtyard

Late afternoon sunlight floods a rustic courtyard near Kunming, illuminating an elderly woman rolling dough on a worn wooden table. She wears a faded indigo tunic and a patterned headscarf, her hands pressing flour into soft yellow sheets. Dry leaves skitter across the packed earth floor, caught in sudden gusts that ruffle the hem of her clothes. Behind her, a weathered stone wall supports a trellis of drying gourds, while baskets of golden grain sit stacked against the corner. Long shadows fall across the rough-hewn table, highlighting the texture of the wood and the fine dust of flour settling on her sleeves. One leaf rests on the edge of the dough.
