Golden sunlight spills across the worn stone surface of a metate, highlighting the rough texture of the grinding tool as a woman works. She sits low on the ground, her hands moving rhythmically over the pile of yellow corn kernels that scatter around the flat slab. Long shadows stretch across the dusty floor of the old quarter in Nha Trang, cast by low-hanging clouds that diffuse the late afternoon light. The foreground dissolves into soft bokeh, blurring the edges of nearby market stalls and wooden crates. Dust motes hang in the beams of light, settling gently on the stone. One kernel of corn rests near the edge of the metate, catching the warm glow of the sun before it fades.
