Geologist Splits Shale Amid Giant Teacup
by Kirk Barrera
Flat noon light floods the rocky outcrop in Blantyre, illuminating a geologist striking a layer of grey shale with a rock hammer. The ground is slick with rain, reflecting the heavy overcast sky above. Beside the figure, a porcelain teacup the size of a swimming pool rests directly on the wet earth, its white surface gleaming under the tropical glare. The cup casts a deep shadow across the damp stones, anchoring the impossible object to the jagged terrain. Fine cracks in the shale radiate from the impact point, while the massive cup dominates the right third of the view. Water droplets rest on the rim of the oversized porcelain, mirroring the puddles scattered around the outcrop. The geologist stands in profile, focused on the rock, ignoring the surreal scale of the cup beside them.
