Gamelan Bronze Bar Glowing in Jakarta Rehearsal Light
by Oliver Arias
Honey-colored afternoon light floods the indoor festival stage in Jakarta, settling thickly over rows of suspended bronze bars. The rainy season hangs heavy outside, visible as a soft, diffused gray through high windows, while the interior glows with warm, amber tones. Polished metal surfaces catch small, sharp highlights where the light strikes directly, revealing the smooth, hammered texture of the instruments. Dust particles drift in the thick, incense-heavy air, suspended between the dark wooden beams and the gleaming bronze. The wide panoramic view shows the rhythmic arrangement of the gamelan set against the deep shadows of the stage floor, where the final beam of the setting sun traces a bright line along the edge of a resting mallet. One bronze bar reflects the warm window glow in a narrow, horizontal strip.
