Frost-Covered Fig Branch in Tehran Meadow

by Lorenzo Woodard

Hard coastal glare slices across a frost-laden meadow near Enghelab, Tehran, turning every blade of grass into a crystalline spike. One fig branch stretches into the frame, its surface rough and gray, crowned by a wind-blown grass head that shivers under the weight of ice. Color concentrates at the center of this grass tuft, a faint, stubborn green ringed by white rime against the stark negative space. The background dissolves into a blur of bloom-heavy vegetation, where frost coats the ground in a uniform, glittering sheet. Sharp shadows fall across the textured bark, showing the cold, dry air of the turning season. at the edge is a single, perfect droplet of ice clinging to the very tip of the grass, refracting the harsh light.
