Frost-Covered Fig Tree in Bosnian Meadow

by Summer Rasmussen

Pale green figs cluster along twisted gray branches that rise from the lower left corner. A thin layer of white frost coats every leaf and limb, turning the gnarled wood into a textured skeleton against the flat, bright sky. The meadow stretches behind the tree, a tapestry of dormant grasses and scattered wildflowers muted by recent rain. Hard noon sunlight eliminates deep shadows but highlights the sharp edges of frozen droplets. The ground appears damp and dark where the snow has melted, lying against the bright white frost clinging to the upper limbs. One heavy branch dips low, its twigs encrusted in crystalline ice that catches the harsh light. The frost rests on the bark, marking the turn of seasons in the still air.
