First light after rain washes over the narrow, stepped stone alley of the tanneries, where the wet cobblestones reflect the muted grey sky and the vibrant vats of dye. In the immediate foreground, a stack of fruit crates rests beside a blue and white porcelain plate, their surfaces slick with recent moisture and local grit. The deep indigo and terracotta hues of the dye pits stretch into the background, framed by the arching, mud-brick walls that define the historic medina's labyrinthine geometry. One drop of water slides from the rim of the porcelain plate, catching the faint, diffused daylight as it falls toward the damp earth below.
