First Light on Artisan in Fez

by Giselle Noble

The damp morning light washes over a narrow alley in Fez, where the cobblestones glisten with residual rain. A young artisan pauses at his workshop threshold, wiping his hands on a faded indigo apron. On a low wooden bench beside him sits a simple ceramic plate holding a small pile of dark blueberries, their skins slick with moisture. Behind him, the interior of the tannery is dim, but the doorway frames a glimpse of a tool pegboard with worn leather strips. Condensation beads on a nearby glass jar, catching the soft, diffused glow.
