Dappled sunlight falls through overhead leaves, casting shifting patches of brightness and shadow across the tin roof and the worker's dust-streaked sleeves. A farrier stands beside a canal in St Louis, leaning into a careful inspection of a metal object. The harsh noon glare breaks into soft, scattered light that reveals the texture of the fabric and the grit on the shoulders. Low-lying ground fog pools in the damp corners near the water's edge, clinging to the base of the workshop structure. Leading lines formed by the canal bank and the building's eaves guide the view toward the focused posture of the figure. A thin layer of metallic dust settles on the rough hem of the trousers.
