Evening Light on Hydrangeas in Chennai

A weathered terracotta pot sits on a rough stone ledge in a Chennai courtyard, holding a cluster of green hydrangeas that have not yet bloomed under the heavy summer heat. The thick, serrated leaves are coated in a fine layer of dust, reflecting the harsh, diffused light of the late afternoon sky. Behind the foliage, the dark, wet stains of tile grout mark the vertical wall, evidence of recent monsoon rains or daily cleaning routines. One, pale green flower bud rests on the branch, its delicate petals just beginning to unfurl against the rough, textured stone surface.
