Chennai Crossing Guard Post at Dawn

Deep shadow envelopes a metal crossing guard post beneath the overhang of a government building in Chennai. Low-hanging gray clouds press against the sky as the first light of dawn attempts to break through. The structure stands in silhouette, defined only by a sharp rim of cool white light from overhead floodlights that cuts along its edges. Concrete pavement stretches into the foreground, marked with faded white lines and scattered debris. The turn of seasons leaves the air heavy with moisture, visible in the way the light catches the damp surface of the metal. Beside the post, a small patch of dry grass struggles through a crack in the sidewalk, against the rigid geometry of the civic infrastructure. A faint reflection of the floodlight glimmers on a wet patch of asphalt near the base.
