Estonian Timber House Facade at Golden Hour in at the base of a monumental staircase in Estonia

Estonian Timber House Facade at Golden Hour

by Ann Kim

Warm golden light washes over the weathered timber frame of a traditional Estonian house, highlighting the rough grain of darkened wood against the pale sky. Carved beam ends protrude from the walls, their rounded shapes catching the low sun and casting short, sharp shadows into the deep grooves. The facade sits at the base of a monumental stone staircase that rises steeply into a sky filled with low-hanging, grey clouds. Late spring greens peek through the stone joints of the stairs, against the brown and grey tones of the architecture. The light creates a stark division between the illuminated lower wall and the shadowed upper sections. One carved knot in the timber near the corner catches the final ray of sun, glowing amber against the surrounding dark wood.
