Carved Timber Facade at Misty Dawn Near Assela
by Hana Sweeney
Rain-slicked timber beams emerge from the rough-hewn walls of a house, their carved ends displaying deep geometric patterns softened by the morning mist. A light drizzle coats the dark wood in a glossy sheen, highlighting the texture of the grain against the pale, diffused light of dawn. The structure sits close to a wind-scoured stone fortress wall, its weathered surface showing the long history of exposure to the monsoon rains. Water beads on the intricate carvings and runs down the vertical planks, creating a rhythm of dark wet streaks. The low angle of the sun casts a soft, even glow that eliminates harsh shadows, leaving the scene in a quiet, saturated tone of earthy browns and grays. One beam end, rounded by years of rain, rests just above a puddle reflecting the gray sky.
