Espresso Machine in Rome

Rain slicks the narrow Via del Governo Vecchio as dusk settles into a heavy, gray indigo. Through the fogged glass of a small, family-run trattoria, a waiter in a stained white apron leans over a stainless steel counter, using a heavy adjustable spanner to tighten a loose bolt on a commercial espresso machine. The metal tool glints under the warm, yellow tungsten light spilling from the open kitchen, contrasting sharply with the cold, wet pavement visible just beyond the threshold. A few patrons sit at nearby tables, their faces illuminated by the soft glow of candlelight and the blue hue of the rainy evening outside.
