Under the harsh sodium glare of a South Auckland street, a wet pavement reflects the neon spill from a nearby Chinese restaurant, illuminating a cluster of discarded items near a curb. A frayed rope fibers lies tangled around the base of a cracked terracotta bowl, which sits precariously on the edge of a rusted scrap basket filled with wet cardboard. In the background, the blurred headlights of a passing bus streak across the frame, against the static, damp decay of the refuse in the foreground. One dumpling wrapper, translucent and glistening, rests atop the basket, caught in the moment before being swept away by a sudden gust of wind.
