Desert Tracks Looping Volcanic Cones Twilight in above dune fields and dry wadis near Ason, Kathmandu

Desert Tracks Looping Volcanic Cones Twilight

by Fiona Hanna

Deep indigo twilight settles over the dune fields near Ason, Kathmandu, where winding tire tracks carve bright patterns against the dark sand. Three distinct black volcanic cones rise sharply from the dry wadis, their rough surfaces absorbing the fading ambient light. Low clouds break into clear patches above, revealing a sliver of darkening sky. Shallow pools of water in the wadis reflect the sky's color, casting a cool, metallic sheen across the track loops. The tracks curve precisely around the cone bases, creating concentric rings that emphasize the scale of the volcanic formations against the vast, empty terrain. A sharp edge of shadow falls across the nearest dune ridge.
