Dawn Staircase Inside Honduras Building Shell

by Jamie Ponce

Soft gray light floods the interior of a raw concrete structure where the roof remains an open expanse of sky. A temporary metal staircase rises steeply from the dusty floor, its rungs marked by safety tape and connected by diagonal braces. Low-hanging clouds drift just above the building's open perimeter, blending with the pale horizon. The excavation edge is cordoned off with red and white caution tape, creating a rigid boundary against the loose earth. Vertical rebar protrudes from unfinished walls, catching the diffused morning glow. Dust settles on the metal surfaces, while the low angle emphasizes the height of the steel framework against the overcast sky. A rust streak runs down the side of a support beam near the base.
