Dawn Sandcastle Competition Vancouver Autumn Beach
Deep shadows cloak the wet sand of a Vancouver shoreline as the first light of dawn breaks through heavy autumn clouds. Along the water's edge, figures huddle around partially built sand structures, their forms outlined by a thin, bright rim of light cutting through the gloom. The sand appears dark and saturated, against the pale, overcast sky. Fallen leaves in shades of rust and gold scatter across the foreground, at the base of the scene in peak fall. The builders wear heavy jackets, their postures leaning forward in quiet concentration. The wet sand reflects the grey sky, while the rim light highlights the texture of the damp grains and the rough fabric of the coats. A small pile of discarded shells sits near the base of the largest tower, catching the faint glow.
