Salt-Crusted Solar Panel Near Salvador Lighthouse

by Claudia Garrett

Thick white salt crystals encrust the dark surface of a weather station solar panel, creating a rough mosaic over the black silicon cells. Fine droplets from a light drizzle bead on the angled glass, catching the late afternoon light. Behind the panel, the textured beige stone of a lighthouse bluff rises steeply, its masonry damp and darkened by moisture. A metal mounting bracket, streaked with mineral deposits, anchors the device to the ground beside the coastal path. The edge of the panel reflects a sliver of the grey sky, highlighting the sharp contrast between the industrial science equipment and the natural coastal erosion. The dry season air leaves the stone surface dry in patches while the rain wets the metal.
