Commuters Under Amber Light Before Dawn

Amber streetlights cast a warm, uneven glow across wet asphalt beneath a concrete awning in Aleppo. Four figures stand close together, heads bowed over glowing rectangular screens. Their reflections shimmer on the slick ground where rain has recently pooled. The underpass light flickers intermittently, casting shifting shadows against the rough stone walls. Autumn leaves, damp and brown, rest on the edges of the pavement. The commuters wear heavy coats, their breath visible only as a faint distortion in the humid air. Leading lines of the wet road stretch forward, drawing toward the dark tunnel entrance. A puddle near the curb mirrors the fractured light of a passing vehicle.
